Brittany from Tn - Thu Apr 17 18:19:57 2008 My step-father has bi-polar disorder, but will refuse to get any help. The reason for this is because with his previous marriage, she was pushy and used him and tried to take everything from him. If it has her name attached to it, he will have nothing to do with it. Now, my mom is suffering the consequences of this. I have seen the rages that he goes into and how he can act when everything is fine, and its a complete 180 from the person he really is. I have also seen him lay hands on my mother, who is a saint. She doesn't deserve to be treated the way that she is and wants him to get help, but we do not know how to approach him about this without him getting angry and saying she is just trying to do him like is ex did. It's a very upsetting thing and it is now getting to the point to where he is dragging her out of bed and literally beating her up over nothing. He does have a drug problem and we know that he shouldn't be doing them with this disorder, but once again, we are always wrong about everything according to him. If my mother brings it up that he has been doing them and that she doesn't approve, that is one of the things that will set him off and make him go "crazy". There is mental illness in his family and his father was actualy on trial for the murder of his mother, which he got away with and shouldn't have. In the times it happened, anyone could have been payed off and that is what happened. I do not know what to do and it seems that everywhere I turn, its a dead end. I do not want my mother getting hurt anymore and I am afraid that one day it will be taken to the point where she ends up like his mother. If this happens, I am afraid to say what I would do myself. My mother is my best friend and a saint in my eyes. We all want to get him help but just need to know how to go about doing it. If anyone can give me some information, please feel free to do so and maybe we can get out of this rut. My email is IrishRose10285@aol.com. I check it frequently, so its ok to send to me. Thank you for your time and please respond if you know what to do.
